Lumin James Originals Pottery Studio

Working mostly with clay the Lumin James Studio create functional art in the form of pottery. Each item that comes out of their studio is a ‘one-of-a-kind’ item. Whether it is in the making or the decoration, each product is unique. Their recent first attempt at the traditional art of Raku firing was hugely successful and they are planning to extend their range of products using this method.
Lumin James took a giant leap 6 years ago and moved from Johannesburg to Jeffreys Bay to follow their hearts. Both previously in the corporate and advertising world they responded to the call to be free again. Lumin – ‘the alchemist’ and Eddie – ‘the pragmatist’ now enjoy every day in their studio while doing what they have always wanted to do.
They believe that by combining form and function, a great deal more satisfaction is derived from a well crafted piece.
When they are not in the pottery studio they both enjoy sculpting, oil painting, creating jewellery in silver and find their inspiration in nature, social events and daily experiences.
Some products in their range include the ‘Xhosa Girl’ platters and mugs, showing women and children in traditional dress using a contemporary design style.

On the lighter side Lumin and Eddie enjoy showing their sense of humour in the ‘Cat’ and ‘Pig’ range of Tea Pots and Sugar bowls. Each one is individually made and named and follows a theme.
The Sugar Bowls are tongue-in-cheek caricatures of people, attitudes and fashion. They make excellent gifts and become the centre piece at any tea party. They only need sugar and love. A limited edition is produced giving them a collectable status.
Personalised tea-pots are also made on order and come with a collector’s certificate of authenticity. Corporate commissions usually reflect the profession or status of the recipient. They are fully functional and are meant to be used.
Our commissions have included large game lodges, restaurants, delis, bakeries, coffee shops and individual collectors.
